Around 20 kilometers south of Ban Krut is the neighbouring town of Bangsaphan, it can be reached along the beach road (the most scenic way), inland roads, or by going back to Petchkasem Road and heading south (though this doubles the distance).
Bangsaphan does not have as many accommodation options as Ban Krut but it is slowly developing, there is no "beach road" as such so the bungalows and resorts that are there are spread over an area of about a kilometer. There are also a couple of larger resorts. A full summary can be found here: Bangsaphan Accommodation
Bangsaphan Restaurants & Bars
There is a bigger expat community in Bangsaphan so the number of bars and restaurants that cater to western tastes is greater, there are also a number of good Thai restaurants. Among the better ones are I-Talay, Why Not, Montri's, the Bangsaphan Guesthouse and Tae's Restaurant. A full summary can be found here: Bangsaphan Restaurants
The major attraction at Bangsaphan is the island, Koh Talu. It does not have the quality of beach that you can find at Ban Krut but the island alone more than makes up for it. You can take a day trip snorkelling or diving or stay overnight on the island at the Koh Talu Resort. Bangsaphan also has a couple of local waterfalls and a few local beaches futher south and north at Bo Tong Lang. A full summary can be found here: Bangsaphan Attractions
The town is much bigger than the village at Ban Krut and a better place to go for shopping although what's available is definitely limited when compared to the likes of Hua Hin. There are a couple of local markets and a lot more shops and banks than Ban Krut.
